I think there are several types of 400's out there. Not likely an easy swap, but I'll let more experienced guys explain it. | | | | | Joined: Feb 2014 Posts: 46 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Feb 2014 Posts: 46 | welcome, the 400 motor is a good choice.chev being the smallest, size is compact and will go fairly easy, v8 crossmember is a must for motormounts.pontiac or olds will fit but needs more work, relocate stearing box ect.years ago my dad fit a 303 olds in 53 gmc 1/2 ton.he made exhaust manifold for left side to clear stearing box.best of luck with your bolt | | | | | Joined: Apr 2005 Posts: 7,441 Bolter | | Bolter Joined: Apr 2005 Posts: 7,441 | Not likely you will be able to keep any of the drive train original. Certainly not the enclosed drive shaft. With enough money and skills or a good fabricator anything can be put into your truck. Open your wallet and have at it.

I despised the crossmember for motor mounts. Buy the ones from JimCarter/Chassis Engineering and make a nice neat clean job. Locate them on the chassis per instructions and that V8 will fit like a glove. ...and yes, I'd plan on moving the steering box outside the chassis and its not that hard either if you follow the instructions from a couple places. ...if you go V8 save your self some time and money by going ahead and putting in a 700R4 Tranny. Take your time and make yourself a neat smooth ride.....and yes, change out the rearend. Nothing to it (you can check out my photobucket link for some pics) | | |
