...got the 700 tranny in the panel. I'm taking the rest of the day off and will work out the little things next week. I do have the measurements for the driveshaft and ready to put the Bowtie Overdrive kit on it.

Put my drive shaft in and drove it, 58 GMC, up and down the road in front of the house for a few minutes. It's loud, no mufflers, and definitely has more get up and go with the 350 than the 235.

I know no pics then it didn't happen, well you'll just have to take my word for. I'll post some video when I figure out how to. Larry

Had a very good day, With a neighbor kid's help, got the Pertronix system successfully installed, all wiring cleaned up, also got a Tach installed and wired very neatly, and got the Fresh Air Heater unit pulled out for update to a 12 volt blower fan motor. If spring 2014 ever gets here, we will be ready to (have some fun).

After a 4 week hiatus, back into the garage yesterday and pulled the rest of the dash out (gage clusters) and started removal of the wiring harness. Also removed the old heater (it was from an International) and getting ready to put my rebuilt fresh air unit in.

Now trying to psych myself up for dismantling the speedo. Pulling the needle and taking apart the odometer have me a little intimidated.

Rebuilt the master cylinder on the ole '49. Almost ready to get her back on the road. Waiting on some brake parts to come in from Jim Carter's.

Got a large patch finished on the cab floor.
Got the inside of the cab coated in bed liner
Got the floor of the bed cut out.
Got the axle welded to the frame to hold it in place while we build the 4-link
Sanded a bunch of the primer off the cab. (1/2 the cab was primed)

Ok, not just today, but over the past several months I've been tinkering with the '54 panel.
Rebuilt all the wheel cylinders, master cylinder and replaced all the rusted out brake lines. Changed out the tires and wheels at the same time.
Took the bumpers and grille out and painted over that ugly blue with some satin black.
Rewired the headlights and front parking/turn signals. Went over the wiring to the taillights and did away with all the corroded factory blade connectors, so now the head, tail and factory turn signals all work. Replaced the front t/s lenses with amber ones cuz I like 'em and I've got a new lense for the center taillight on order.
Took the steering wheel off and cleaned up the turn signal switch. Now it not only works, but the self canceling part is functional. Fixed the horn contact while I was at it, so the horn also works now.
Took the later model 3 speed shifter off and replaced it with the correct one so that the shifter clears the steering wheel now. Much easier to manuver in a tight spot.
Posted some pics of the truck sitting at the gas pump on it's maiden voyage under it's own power in the truck album in my sig.

I have been tinkering around with all sheet metal off and engine still mounted. Decided to go all in today. Dropped driveline, removed tranny, and pulled engine. Sent head to machine shop and went shopping at sears.

Well, it was 87 degrees here yesterday and today night it will be 16 degrees. It looks the high tomorrow will be 35 and then back to the normal averages for the next 10 days. If that happens I will be spending time reupholstering my side panels

As many of you already know my truck has had it's fair share of handling 'issues'.
I spent the day cutting and grinding all the old brackets off my rear axle in readines for a new Danny's Original Customs 4-link rear suspension.
I'm loving the simplicity of it as it ties into the holes left by the removal of the front shackle mount rivets so there is minimal alteration to the original chassis.

Over the weekend, I got the floor mat installed, the door glass installed, a powered subwoofer installed, and the front grille readied for installation (poor weather prevented that install). After looking at the subwoofer photo, I am going to hide all the wiring under the sub. The wiring enters the cab directly under the sub via the factory "drain" hole.

Looking good David. I notice you have a CB radio installed. How did you run the antenna cable?

Not a CB, it is a PA system at the request of my son. I mounted in such a manner as no new holes were drilled and it can be removed without any tell tale sign it was ever installed. I hate it, but I conceded to my son as he will be driving the truck to and from High School when the weather is nice.

Shoot, if that was all he played, I would be happy. My father sense tells me it is only going to get him in trouble as it is also a siren (police, fire, ambulance) and very loud (100 watt speaker). It has a "radio" input setting (presumably so police/fire radio transmissions can be heard) that I connected to the radio (one channel from unused front speakers). So, he will be able to broadcast the radio outside the truck at stupid volume. I know, I know.

Finally got the 4 link rear completed. Don't know why it wouldn't line up right, but all of sudden everything was square and the angle was correct. Must be the gremlins working at night....

I pulled apart the dash and the heater on the Federal today. Got the blower motor working but the speedo is broke, if anyone knows where I can get my gauges rebuilt please let me know in a PM.

I also pulled apart the rear end, well to a point anyway. I am going to need a very large socket to get the hub itself off the truck...

Completed one speaker box for 6x9 speaker to be located in rear cab corners (sorry no photo). Installed the grille. Very large pain in the neck to install, especially the two bolts above each running light/turn signal.

Almost forgot...installed door panels, arm rests, window crank and door latch handles. I purchased maroon vinyl that matches the seat and covered a standard cardboard door panel. Armrest also matches...looks good. I will have a take a photo and post later.

I looked at the grille photo again and just realized I installed the running light trim rings upside down. Doh!

got the accelerator linkages hooked up. Took off the starter to test it and clean the contacts/starter itself up. Finish that up tomorrow on my day off and hopefully get the engine fired up for the first time since I bought it!

I have a 1981 Camaro 10 Bolt with a 3.73 gear set from a 1997 Silverado. I was able to just bolt on a 2002 Camaro/Trans AM 12" LSI rear disc brakes.

I bought a Sanden compressor and bracket for the '56 from Old Air. I got it installed today but I had to remove the alternator bracket to get the A/C bracket on. Now I need to go back and get their matching alternator bracket. Would have been nice if he'd told me it would interfere when he was looking at it to tell me what I need.

Started the long process of taking the cab down to bare metal and then treating with 3M Mar-Hyde. The bottom half exterior is done (as pictured).

Over the weekend I got the alternator bracket to match the Old Air compressor bracket installed in my '56. Today I charged the A/C system. It isn't working right, dang it.

Finished blasting vent window frames, wind deflectors and shifting arm and the running board splash pans, got 'em all in primer. Once this darn cold front gets outta here in Virginia, I'll get to wet sand and paint 'em all and finally get all of the gaskets in place and vent windows mounted.

Got the throttle linkage hooked back up and also he Bowtie Overdrive kit for the 700R4 tranny. I should be able to put the driveshaft in tomorrow if its ready.

...also re-routed a brake line better around the tranny. If I had a correct dipstick I could put fluid in it tomorrow and get "big Orange" back on the ground. Got a dipstick from Mr. Gasket that attaches to the firewall and its a big "joke". I'm taking it back and looking for an original style one!

Also adjusted the brakes just a little since its up on jack stands.
Bad rainy and cold day outside but a good day in the shop!
