Oil has changed, that is a fact. Break-in oil has the additives regular oil does not. Zinc and other useful additives was removed by request of the OEM's for emissions and longer life of the exhaust converters.
Once the engine is broke in, normal oils will work in about 95% of all rebuilt engines. Its that 5% with the radical cams and high pressure valve springs that need race oils all the time.
Can you get away with regular oil, maybe, is it worth the risk? you tell me.
Comp Cams, and most of the other cam sellers all list some sort of break-in oil in the catalogs, whats that tell you?
