Lonnie, I would say you could probably get along without a heat riser. many when running headers or Fenton dual exhaust manifolds don't have any heat to the base of the carbs.
I think replacement springs are available from some of the truck part suppliers such as Jim Carter ect....
Might want to make something to keep the heat riser in the open position for sure.
