I guess I have been very lucky with my 1 wire alt on my 1958 Chevy with 261 six. Over a six year period of solid driving. Average about 12,000 miles a year I have never had a problem until the pinion bearing went out. The battery was 5 years old when I had to park the truck. Went all over the state of Texas in that old truck. Soon I'll replace the bad bearings, and ring and pinion gears and start driving it again.
