Is there some special reason you wouldn't just run the alternator output to the batt post on the starter. Isn't this how the original system was wired. I have seen 1 wire alternators advertised but never investigated them. From Cletis' comments, I would assume there might be a issue with the ability of them to sense a small increase in current demand and to switch on. Is this the concern?
