The cars I mentioned said "20W50" right on the oil cap. with the Volkwagens, it was on both gas and deisel turbo engines. Also, to add to that, I recently serviced an '06 Hyundai Sonatta with a gas engine, it also listed 20w50 as an authorized oil for use in it. Granted, it was for high temp use.
