a deep dull thud sure sounds like a bad main to me. Builder, did he use a 305 gasket on a 350?-saw a guy do that once, only I saw it after the fire burned thru the gasket after some miles-had the "fire ring" from the gasket neatly on top of the piston like an extra ring.
