What a crock! Any properly rebuilt Holley will work trouble free for many, many years. There is a world of sales people who get an idea, and no matter how wrong it is will stick with it till they die. If what he is saying is even remotely true, why did they come out as the factory carb on inboard boats for almost 30 years? I have one on my boat that dates back to 1975, and it is still working perfectly.
Holley have been making 1,2 and 4 barrel carbs with the same basic design since I started playing with cars in 1957, and I think that the design would have been changed if a problem, so potentially dangerous, was that serious.
I am not against the Rochester or the Carter ( Edelbrock ) designs at all, and am running Rochesters on a couple of my vehicles. I would be just as happy to have Carters ( Edelbrock ) carbs, if they were on the vehicle I wouldn't change them.
