Your grease will no stay in the leaf pack. I tried it and after a few months I pulled it back apart, all the grease was gone from the wear points. The old cars used a burlap wrapped tightly around the pack with a sheet metal cover over that. I would bet even then the wear points were dry, but all that wrap and grease made them quiet so you thought it was working.
Try some of the teflon buttons or strips.
