I used delrin which is easier to machine than teflon, works just as well as a spring pad, and is 1/10th the cost of teflon. Delrin has the consistency of brass when machining. I machined a delrin bar into a u-shape to fit over the spring. Used the center bolt to keep everything in place. If wrapping the springs, a thin strip would be fine as the wrap would keep it from coming out the side, and the bolt keeps it from moving lengthwise.
UHMW is way too soft and extrudes out.
