Good assumptions, Stuart. 12V stomp. There is a resistor on the firewall.

The wire from the starter runs back up to the ignition switch.

I got two pointers from your information:

1) I haven't been testing correctly. I'll change that next time I'm working on it.

2) There should be three positions on the ignition switch. This makes me think the switch is bad because I can only find two positions.

So maybe I need a new ignition switch?
