There are two bolts that go from inside the oilpan through the front bearing cap into the front plate/motor mount the timing cover mounts to. To get the front plate or front bearing cap off you'll have to pull these two bolts. The holes in the front bearing cap the bolts go through can be threaded so that when you put everything back together you can the front plate/motor mount from the outside.
