I followed one part of Marty's advice with my suburban. It sat in the garage for 13 years until I had some money and some time. The restoration lasted about 10 years. I kept records of the costs and you do not want to know the total (it might depress you). Spread over 10 years, it was not so bad. Now I have a totally restored vehicle to pass on to my daughter (and maybe her offspring).
You could, however, follow another piece of Marty's advice, "Just drive it, and do what you can, when you can."
