I prefer to not post what I have spent on my Suburban.
But, it is not an "investment": that would be the spending of money in the hope of making more money.
My "joke" is that I spent less than what a new Suburban costs. Everyone smiles when they go for a ride in it; and, other old truck owners regularly remark about how smooth-running and quiet it is on both back roads and highways - Priceless.
$3,000 is what I spent on the paint and paint supplies.
Also, a Suburban is the most expensive vehicle to restore:
- four doors
- 8 seat cushions, and 4 seat frames
- 13 to 16 windows (as many as 8 of them are movable)
- no bed, but double the interior area to paint, a large rear floor area, and a lot more exterior surface-area to paint
