I saved every receipt on my 49 Sub frame off. The last time I added it up it came to $18,800. There are some things I would do differently but I am satisfied with the end result. This was also my first build and I learned a lot. I am 78 and retired and the money came from a part time job. The build took me 8 years so the cost was spread out over that period of time and it didn't seem like it was financially difficult. Its still not finished (headliner, inside side panels, etc.) but I am driving it and having a ball. I think it depends a lot on your stage in life and your family situation. I would do another build even at my age because I feel if I don't stay active and keep my brain exercised I would soon be in the old rocking chair. It was fun and even funner? driving it getting all the thumbs up. Even from Harley guys.
