I built a single carb. downdraft intake out of exhaust pipe once to replace the stock updraft intake on a guy's '28 Chev. Tig welded up real nice. Used a real small Holley 1-bbl. from a early '60's 170 CI Ford 6. Worked OK until the building the car was stored in burned to the ground. (Fire was not caused by the car.) Intake pic at:
