got a meter? batt disconnected, check continuity from the lug on the side of the starter to the coil +, with the key on .... with the foot stomp there's a bypass for the ign resistor, and when you press the start button, full battery voltage is sent to the coil for a little extra uumph - no relay involved, but key sw is
also [battery connected again] you can check spark by pulling the dist cap and opening/closing the points with the key on [other hand in yer pocket
