Before I made the 292/overdrive swap, I ran a straight drive 3 speed trans (with a 1:1) final drive. I still drove 60 COMFORTABLY on the state highways for miles and miles. And 65 was about my maximum comfortable cruising speed.
So 3.73s aren't
that bad, even without overdrive. But I wouldn't step back to a non-OD trans for anything!
Being able to cruise with and pass interstate traffic with ease in an old vehicle is great. But shocking to the people you pass.
