Ken,

The "half power of the 250" is a tad of an exaggeration. But the improvement is not on the order of magnitude I expected given the increases in cubic inches (50+ more at .060 overbore), camming, carb and exhaust. I realize that I've got to get things tuned and get the engine broken in. I also took care not to get too deep into the throttle. I expect improvements in performance as things are tweaked and the "bugs" are worked out.

The distributor is stock HEI out of an early 80s chevy van. The top is brand new (cap, coil, rotor) but I didn't replace the vac advance. That I can (and probably will) do easily. I haven't checked the water flow to the heater yet. Will do.

Tony,

I've heard the Edelbrocks are extremely easy to tune. So I'll take your pointers and play around with those once I get back to the truck (it's an hour away). The timing gears were already installed by the rebuilder when I bought the short block. It was all put together. So I'll assume they are a matched set.

gmc248,

I used a "paste" type sealer on the sending unit. But you know what? It's almost like a liquid teflon tape. So it might not be grounded. I'll check into it. Thanks!

Any suggestions regarding the speedometer? Will I need to find another cable to make the speedometer work on my 66? What do I ask for? The one that matches the transmission?

Thanks for the advice guys. If you think of anything else please reply or email.
