Use the Moroso mech advance curve kit. The Mr Gasket parts store kits are useless. Shoot for base timing of 12-15 degrees, 34-38 degrees all in by 3 grand. Vac advance will add an additional 10 or so on top of that when cruising. Timing tape or a dial-back light is essential.
The larger cam, manifolding and exhaust system has cost you some low-end. But properly tuned, the 292 should still outrun a healthy stock 250.
