Somewhere on the web I have seen an ad for the 1937 panel SEO (special equipment option) ton dually. The running boards on that ad, on the two linked above and on mine all appear to be modified in exactly the same way. The fenders on mine are showing a seam, but my dad tells me you could order the ton dually panel and the conversion was done by Chevrolet to a completed ton panel.
When I get my fenders stripped I will document this better with some good pictures and maybe we can guess what they really did. I always assumed mine were panel fenders that were factory modified. The AD linked above looks a LOT like mine with some mods made. I notice it even has orange fenders, so I wonder if it was another Gulf Oil tanker before they cleaned up the body and changed the rear doors.
