First thing to check is the PCV hose, does it have oil in it? A simple test is to install a clear 3/8" inline fuel filter in the PCV line then go drive it. If it's sucking oil the filter will have a bunch in it.

Next is pull the valve covers and see if you can see the valve seals, its pretty hard to see them but you want to make sure they are still installed correctly. You may need to fill a cylinder with cotton rope and pull the valve springs to check. I worked on a Pontiac that sat before starting, all 16 seals were riding up and down with the valves, they installed cheap seals that didn't fit the head and after it sat they dried out.
