I have used that process on occasion, with mixed results. One oil-burner engine we tried to rescue after a botched rebuild by a different shop didn't work, but we found out later that one piston was missing an oil ring. Other times, the oil consumption got reduced pretty dramatically and we didn't have to open the engines up and redo the ring job. Even if the engine might need a rework later, the Bon Ami won't do any further damage.
