I went with the # of gaskets recommended (4) and will make adjustments if necessary on the torque tube to the transmission.
Since you already have the u-joint and ball housing installed, you'll need to take everything apart again, including the cork seal, to make the proper adjustments. Here's the procedure out of the service manual.
