Back when I was building "claimer" engines for the Street Stock division at Nashville Fairgrounds Speedway, we were required to run a single Holley 7448- - - -350 CFM 2 barrel. It was the local track's version of restrictor plate racing since the carb was a pretty effective way of limiting the cost of building engines. High dollar cams, cylinder heads, intake manifolds, and other "go fast" stuff made no sense if the engines couldn't breathe. A 355 cubic inch Chevy V8 would max out around 6100 RPM- - - -no matter what camshaft, compression ratio, or gear ratio we ran. The carb simply couldn't flow enough air to run any faster. A stovebolt cylinder head serves the same purpose- - - -no matter what kind, or how many carburetors somebody hangs onto the thing, the ports, valve size, and combustion chamber design will be the limiting factor. The laws of physics are not "suggestions"- - - - -no matter how creative the ad writer gets with his claims!
