I believe that the power steering box that CPP and others provide is referred to as a series 400 unit.
It is an aftermarket unit designed from a 84-87 Toyota 4x4 unit which was popular until the parts dried up.
I have the original Toyota unit in my 56 that I installed in 2000. It does appear to have an external adjustment.
However, I have never found the need to touch it as it has worked perfectly since the install.
The fact is that almost all aftermarket stuff is made offshore (China) you may continue to get a faulty
product no mater how many times they send you a replacement.
And no, it should not have slop in it. I'm not sure if adjustments can fix this issue.
