Bill it is sort of like firefighters using a big fat hose vs a garden hose. Not quite that simple, but everything I've learned about this (only 55 years so I'm still learning) is that a too-large fuel inlet orifice will definitely make a difference in the way the carburetor runs and everything in there was designed for a certain balance. In fact, years ago when I did my comprehensive Rochester B study for this forum, I discovered the 5 Rochesters I had bought had 3 different sizes of fuel orifices...for no identifiable reason whatsoever.
