And one more thing I didn't specifically mention...but I should have. A gentleman asked me this morning if this condition caused problems at all rpm ranges and it jiggled my old memory a bit. The answer is yes, by the way...and for 2 reasons. When your diaphragm doesn't seal on the bottom side, you not only suck fuel through and into the intake manifold, but also you have less vacuum than the Carter engineers intended should be present to regulate your metering rod. So, naturally it doesn't get "sucked down" as far as it should (except possibly during deceleration), and this causes the thinner portion of the rod to be inside the metering jet...making it run richer for a second reason. If anyone needs more information on the little straightening jig/tool I made to flatten the bonnet, please let me know.
