You can see in the attached image below I made what I hoped would be an alternative to the steel spring loaded needle and the stock seat (with standpipe riser) a few years ago. It didn't work, however. Even though it seemed like it would, something caused it to be less responsive and close a bit too slowly allowing too much fuel in the bowl too quickly. I tried the same strength spring as the original (even tried the original spring) but it didn't help.
