The screws seemed to all have plenty of bottom clearance. What Jerry mentioned would be really nice to have, but lacking anything like that I just took a nice flat piece of wood (think it was poplar) and used a forstner bit to drill a 1 inch hole about 1/2 inch deep. Then I cut a circle in a piece of 120 grit sandpaper and another in a 400 or 600 grit piece and used that to make the bonnets flat on all sides. So far it seems to work like a charm.
