I have 7.50 x 20 tires on my '46 1-1/2 ton and do not have a problem, but there is very little clearance between the tire and the fender well on tight turns.
Does anybody know if the use of "clamshell" fenders was related to 8.00 x 20 tires on the trucks to mitigate the tire clearance issue?
Or were the clamshells specifically for something else?
