They are the wrong cables for your truck. I ran across the same issue when I did mine and ended up bought a new set from LMC which were correct and have that long steel sleeve that your old cables had.The picture shows what it should look like. The original steel sleeve has a groove that the clamp bolt engages to prevent the cable sheath from sliding forward.
