I think of these little pipes as Nerf bars. I like them and they look good. As far as function they may not be the best, but if we were looking for the best we would all be at the surplus yard taking the front push bumpers off of old police cars.
Find a local metal shop. Tell them what you are thinking and see if they can fab something for you. You can clean it up and paint it or spend a lot of time smoothing it and send it to a chrome shop.
