It took a longtime to complete I-90 through Wallace, ID. The interstate tapered down to the city (town?) streets and there was a stop light but not on the true freeway itself. I heard of someone new in Wallace telling relatives in New York come and see them by going west on I-90 and taking the left at the first light.
Driving at night in Wyoming in our '65 Impala (4-door hardtop with 3-speed stick shift and overdrive no less!), I had to slam the brakes for a big buck mule deer standing sideways and staring me down. The brakes reached a point where they had no effect. Was able to miss the buck but I never wanted to drive beyond drum brakes. Coming down steep passes could also be a problem if not geared down as needed. Drum brakes can go away.
