My truck is a driver, and it drives good on "good" roads. It goes down the freeway or any nice paved road fine, however put it on country road that's crowned, rutted and rough and you have to Drive all the time. It's at a point in life where a freshening up of the front end would definitely help, but I'll likely just keep driving for a few more years and appreciate it for what it is. I suspect that if my long passed Dad could step out of his old tan 49 five window 3100 and get into my 51 he'd feel right at home.
Sometimes I think we lose sight of how old trucks drove 60 years ago. Of course one needs to make sure their rig is safe, after that just enjoying it works for me.
And to stay on the thread topic, my stock comfortable "top speed" with original style bias ply 700/15 tires was about 45mph. With the upgrade to 215/85/16 radials and the T5 transmission, I found all was good at about 55. Now with 4.10 gears (stock was 4.57) and the T5, 60 mph is very OK. 65 is no problem but I usually don't spend much time there due to brakes being stock and I just don't need to run that fast to enjoy the day.
Now all the above said, I did get caught up in big city rush hour freeway traffic a few months ago (not by plan that's for sure) and ran along for a few miles at about 70-75. That's MY top speed.
