The A-10s were designed as low level combat aircraft and tank busters especially with that Gatling gun in the nose. Look closely at the front end of an A-10 and you will see the nose wheel is offset because of the gun. It was the only military plane designed around a gun.
Because of their low level manoeuverability the forestry people were considering using them as water bombers. I mean if they can use 747s and DC10s why not an old A-10?
