What's the angle of the transmission output shaft? 12 degrees up is a lot to compensate for, probably more than shims can manage. There's an article in the Tech Tips section that deals with U joint angles and such, and since it's part of a Dana/Spicer tech bulletin, it's definitely more than just hearsay.
