Yes, there is normally a neutral position with many aux boxes, however some of the 2 speed units don't have one. I've not seen a 3 or 4 speed aux without a neutral. There are usually lockouts to prevent the selection of 2 speeds at the same time as there are 2 separate shift rods that are manipulated external to the transmission case.
