How would a screw/ballcock continuously modify the flow of the fluid/coolant as the temperature in the cab changes?
The Ranco control valve is a feedback-control mechanism.
The sensor tube in the cab causes the valve to increase or decrease flow of coolant to produce the desired temperature in the cab.
