To plug up the passages go to the local fishing shop, get a $1 bag of round lead weights. Tap into the hole.
Sometimes an aluminum rivet will to the trick (they are sized in 64ths) but you usually have to order by the 100.
Melt lead with a soldering iron to cast a new plug? Never heard of it... and you also need a 200W iron.
