Ken -- Yes Sir, High is good. I wish mine was just a little higher as we usually end up rubbing the lip of the beaver tail on most pulls.
Cables scare me, too. When I see the first hint of degradation in mine, I am going to replace it.
Tiny brought up an interesting issue of the cable not fitting back on the drum after it pays out. Not sure what that issue is, but with my winch, recoveries/pulls onto the the trailer can get ugly, but the cable all fits. As soon as I get home after a haul, before I put the winch away, I always pay out all the cable and carefully rewind it back on the drum to avoid binds or overwraps.
