In one of my past lives I was a crane operator for E&J Gallo Winery in Livingston California. It was a Grove rubber-tired rig with a 40 foot 3-section main beam and a 10 foot jib. The single line lift capacity was 7K pounds, or a 4-line capacity of 20K. In any lift or pull situation, the rigging is more time-consuming and more important that the actual pull. Loose or snapped cables have a nasty habit of doing a lot of whiplash damage.
Recovering wrecked and/or overturned 18-wheelers with a Holmes 650 twin boom wrecker with a 35 ton belly winch was fun, too!
