We have a little electric winch that slides in the receiver hitch but rarely use it.
Instead we use these all the time, light, extremely reliable, and strong.

The model we use most is rated at 1,500 lb double pull, and is usually enough for winching something on a trailer if a decent angle on the ramps. A stronger one wouldn't be a bad thing but they get bigger and or less cable on the drum for the higher ratings.
Also use them for all sorts of lifting and such, removed and installed my 235, a cab, transmission, and so on with a Lug-All.
