My 1 cent worth. I too, am old enough to remember when the vacuum wipers were on new cars and trucks. Even then, wipers stopped working uphill, worked downhill.
As mentioned above, if you want the nostalgic system, your gonna have to expect that.
Or if you want good, safe wipers, change to electric. I recently did this on my 57. Got it from
www.truckandcarshop.com in Orange, Ca. Cost was $180 for the kit. Perfect fit to replace the vacuum motor and comes with a 2 speed switch that looks like the original. It uses your existing linkage.
Now I have great, dependable wipers.
