It no doubt would need some serious welding/brazing/filling to isolate the heat box but for me it was primarily a machining excersize at morphing one shape to another and investigate feasability. I think you're on the right track with a 2 pc. design to cut down the welding required. Someone over at the Inliner's board did something similar with a next gen intake and used epoxy/JB weld to fill the heat cavity. No Idea how that worked out.
