Thanks Jerry..I've been talking to a few older (bigger) truck guys here and the consensus seems to be put them back together with the original shims, check your backlash, adjust side nuts and run em'..don't bother chasing a pattern on older used gears, they don't appear to generally do it..I had one guy tell me it was a waste of time on something that old, that was for newer stuff.
Appears to be - if they howl, then deal with it. Add shims or turn up the radio.
It was funny, bought a tube of gear marking yellow from the local GM dealership, they could not remember when they sold one previously LOL.
