A GM crate is honored by GM and can be installed by any of their certified mechanics, not just the dealerships.
I'm not sure if the GM crate warranty up here is different than the US, but in Canada you don't need a certified installer to install a GM crate motor. You can install it yourself as long as you bring it back to them to set the timing, then the warranty is valid.
