I am working on this list of acronyms. The previous GS list is in a LIMO - Here is the current Acronym post.
This list will be divided into two sections at the end of April.
One list of acronyms will remain in General Truck Talk,
and the other list will be over in the Greasy Spoon.

OK guys, let's keep this about working on trucks. I just deleted several posts with slang terms, funny(?) sayings and the like. Those belong in the Greasy Spoon.

How about "NOS" New Original Stock (at least I think thats what it stands for.)

It stands for "new, old stock" and means a factory OEM part that has been sitting on the shelf since new. Don't expect it to be like new. It's probably been banged around and moved from shelf to shelf a dozen times.

Another related to it is NORS. That is "new, old replacement stock". This also is an unused part but not the factory brand.

I thought NOS was not otherwise specified

also a clarification on AD(Advance Design)=1947 2nd series to 1955 1st series.
1947 1st series are Art Deco
1955 2nd series are Task Force(TF)

Also a clarification on the Art Deco trucks, they ran from 1941 to 1947 early (1st).

Just pulling stuff from another article:

A good rule of thumb: Be conservative in what you send and liberal in what you receive. You should not send heated messages (we call these "flames") even if you are provoked. On the other hand, you shouldn't be surprised if you get flamed and it's prudent not to respond to flames.

Remember that people with whom you communicate are located across the globe. If you send a message to which you want an immediate response, the person receiving it might be at home asleep when it arrives. Give them a chance to wake up, come to work, and login before assuming the mail didn't arrive or that they don't care.

Remember that the recipient is a human being whose culture, language, and humor have different points of reference from your own. Remember that date formats, measurements, and idioms may not travel well. Be especially careful with sarcasm.

Use symbols for emphasis. That *is* what I meant. Use underscores for underlining. _War and Peace_ is my favorite book.

Use smileys to indicate tone of voice, but use them sparingly. Don't assume that the inclusion of a smiley will make the recipient happy with what you say or wipe out an otherwise insulting comment.

Wait overnight to send emotional responses to messages. If you have really strong feelings about a subject, indicate it via FLAME ON/OFF enclosures. For example:

This argument isn't worth the bandwidth it takes to send it. It's illogical and poorly reasoned. The rest of the world agrees with me.

"Reasonable" expectations for conduct depend on your relationship to a person and the context of the communication. Norms learned in a particular environment may not apply in general to your communication with people on the Internet. Be careful with slang or local acronyms.

Communicating with many people via one posting is quite analogous to communicating with one person with the exception of possibly offending a great many more people than in one-to-one communication. Therefore, it's quite important to know as much as you can about the audience of your message.

Just a quick intro on this here "happening." 54TOW has offered to collect up the truck-related acronyms and the non-truck related ones (they'll be in the Greasy Spoon) so we can have a permanent (albeit changing) list for easy reference.

Thanks for the help David. We tried to get this list before but never had anyone step up to do the collecting and sorting. Looks like we might actually "get 'er done" this time.
