I think I know the answer, but I went out to install the door rubber, and I didn't know which way it went. SO...I looked it up and in the video I found the guy had the door off. I'm hoping I can leave the door on, but there isn't a lot of room. Has anyone done this with the doors in place and if so, did it work very well?

thanks, I was hoping that's how it could be done. There certainly isn't a lot of room there.

There is no simple/easy why to do this. I have two trucks that will need this to be done on the doors. I did my Suburban with the doors off the body. I'll do my COE with the doors on the cab. After that, I'll figure out which technique requires fewer colorful words, and I'll use that technique on my pickup.

Dealing with a mile long snake-like piece of rubber covered in sticky snot is hard enough to put on the door when it is on a bench, let alone trying to do it when its on the truck. I would take the door off and do it. You can't get enough practice uninstalling/reinstalling/adjusting doors to qualify as an expert at it. The problems with these @%#$&@ &*)*%$# (can you guess the words?)is you can't stretch them as you install them, and once it sticks , it is stuck. Doing it with the door on the truck has been a nightmare for me in the past.

I put mine on the panel while the doors were on..... but I won't anymore. It goes OK till you go down the front of the door by the hinges. To get it on good and to get it cleaned up afterwards I could have pulled 4 doors off and did it!!!

Mark your doors, if they fit good, and then take them off....I will the next time.....and if you replacing the worn out pins then that is the time to do it.

I did mine with the doors on and lots of masking tape to keep glue off the areas that I didn't want glue on.

I did mine with doors off. Afterward, the rubber let loose on the passenger door where it slightly rubs the outer body (ahead of door) during closing. Service manual calls this "wiping". Anyway, I pulled the door again to fix and glad I did instead of trying to re-glue with door installed. Only takes a few minutes to pull the door.

I built this support to fit on a floor jack. It was a fire grate that I bent a bit and welded a bar across.
point is the cradle makes the whole process less stressfull.
